GI Joe Review!!

gi-joe-review

Just so you guys know, this is my first movie review ever. I’ve never written a review before, but randomly decided to start on GI Joe.

So after watching the GI Joe movie, I totally disagree with the critics that GI Joe got a D+ rating. It should have been given at least a B. The action was crazy and always non-stop. There was good humor involved in the movie without making it cheesy and the action flowed a lot better than the new Transformers. Transformers had action where you wondered when it was going to stop because it was too long. GI Joe had great lengths of action and it always kept you on your toes wondering what is going to happen next. For anyone out there who thinks that there was no plot, you should have waken up when the movie started. The nano missiles were going to tear apart the world when it comes into contact with anything, bottom line. The GI Joe’s were trying to save the world from the missiles getting into the wrong hands and trying to prevent them from being used. Wow, was that so hard to understand? Maybe you don’t know what a plot is. I’ll help you out with Dictionary.com. They state that a plot is, “a secret plan or scheme to accomplish some purpose, esp. a hostile, unlawful, or evil purpose: a plot to overthrow the government.” That’s crazy, it sounds JUST LIKE the movie and it’s the number one definition on Dictionary.com. I rest my case.

Every kid wanted to be a ninja when they grew up … or is that just an Asian thing? Na, every boy wanted to be one. They have cool outfits, swords, ninja stars, crazy martial art skills, undetectably stealthy, and their identity hidden. What more can you ask for? Nothing. Plus, I loved how they showed the history of the two ninja fighters. Not only that, they had a fighting scenes of when they were little. Now you’re going to have all these little kids taking out swords and trying to beat each other up with, haha. In the Transformers, they had so much action that you didn’t even know what’s going on. I don’t follow along the Transformers when I was little, so I don’t know the names of all the robots. That being said, in the fight scenes I had NO IDEA who was who. I didn’t even know who was good or bad guys. Bullets and missiles were going everywhere that you don’t know where they came from or who their intended target is, then out of nowhere there’s explosions and robots are still moving like they didn’t just take a missile in the chest. GI Joe was easy enough to follow along, yet the action kept coming and making you wonder what’s next in a good way. I remember a scene where there was a car chase and then all of a sudden they drop mines and BOOM, there goes the enemy car that was following them. That was crazy because of the high tech weapons that they used and you definitely didn’t expect it.

Accerator Suit. I need to get me one of these :-)

So the next issue most people are going to have is that the accelerator suit is not realistic. So you’re telling me that transforming cars, driving cars with your cell phone (James Bond), and Harry Potter is all believable? It’s GI Joe. I didn’t see you complaining when you were watching GI Joe, Power Rangers, and Transformers on tv. I know when you were little you made sure that you didn’t miss an episode. Get over it. The movie didn’t overuse these suits either. Which makes me think of the MARS soldiers which kept on reminding me of the Star Wars Stormtroopers. It was kind of funny. The movie had nice girl actresses which will get their name more recognized due to this movie. I don’t remember watching the cartoon when I was little, but my friends said that all the original characters from the cartoon are in here and they liked that a lot. The acting could have been better, but that’s not exactly what people are looking for in an action-packed film with all this high-tech weapons and vehicles.

Sienna Miller had some nice scenes with a push-up bra which can only be seen in the movie, so I’ll leave you with this picture of Rachel Nichols instead.

People who become too hyper focus on minute detail often fail to see the bigger picture. When they dwell on such they often forget to suspend their disbelief so they can’t enjoy the movie in its entirety, thus resulting in the negative nitpicking. I remember people making negative comments about the flying ninjas in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Movies are made for you to leave reality and embrace a realm where imagination reigns supreme and boundaries do not exist. That is how the good guys always defeat the bad guys, duh! Love and hope doesn’t save the hero, it’s creative writing with feasible chain of events favors and helps the hero to save the day.

Let me tell you what people REALLY mean by plot. They mean what the fuck is going on, what’s the story the movie is trying to tell?

    Not the evil plan.

Okay, I was one of those people who went into the theatre and expected absolutely NOTHING from this movie. In turn I was blown away from how easy it was to follow, the action and just everything about it. I didn’t dwell on the details concidering I never watched the cartoon or read the comic.

    And honestly I think I have a ninja crush XD Like really…Storm Shadow… He’s almost 40 but still hot…Lol.

    Good review =P
I have to agree with every aspect, except the dictionary.com one. You kinda lost me there XD

EVERY movie needs good acting! Why else are you paying them to be in the movie for?

  • RYCE Randy says:

I agree with you Cleric that all movies need at least a minimal amount of decent acting because that`s the reason why we went to see the movie in the first place. Plus it sucks to think that these actors are getting paid thousands of dollars just to be IN a movie and not act well in a movie.

I agree with you 100% Jia. That was an insightful and well thought out comment. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a perfect example for people who are too “by the books” and need to let loose and use their imagination.
